Virtual phone number for business: a second line on your phone, answered by an AI agent

A virtual phone number for business is a real number that lives in an app instead of a SIM card — in Weyvox, it is the business line of your AI team. You buy it in the app by country and number, or connect the number your customers already know, and take calls on it from your phone. When you can't pick up, Cindy, the telephony agent, answers it for you, books the customer and leaves you a note. The number has a monthly fee in credits, shown before you buy, and every minute on it is billed by the country and type of the number.

What a virtual business number is — and what you get in Weyvox

A virtual number works like any other phone number: customers dial it, it rings, you talk. The difference is where it lives — with an operator in the cloud, not on a SIM card in one handset. That is why it can be bought in a minute, answered from an app and handed over to someone else without swapping phones.

In Weyvox the business line is made of two parts:

  • An operator number bought in the app — Settings → Cindy → “Buy a phone number”. This is the base of the line: without it, Cindy cannot call or answer calls.
  • Your own business number, if you have one — the one on your cards and your storefront — added on top with “Connect a business number”. Calls to it are forwarded to your Weyvox number; it stays with your current carrier, and nothing is bought or transferred.

Every call on the line appears in the app: you see who is calling, you can answer it yourself, and after a call Cindy handled you find her note in the conversation with that number in the “Calls” tab.

A second phone number for business on the phone you already have

Many owners run the business from their personal mobile. A business number in Weyvox gives the business its own line on the same phone, inside the app:

  • Calls to the business number ring in the app. Answer, and the call is yours.
  • You call from it too. Your own call from a Weyvox number is billed at the line price for the country you call, and during the call the “AI agent” button hands the conversation to Cindy.
  • The business keeps its own history. Each call and Cindy's note stay in the conversation with that number, the customers and orders she records go into your lists, and a returning customer is recognised by their number.
  • One phone at a time. An account is active on one phone; sign in on a new one and the old one is signed out. The numbers, chats and records are kept on the servers, so they are all there on the new phone.

If the business number you print on cards is your current mobile or landline, you don't have to give it up — see keeping your own number below.

Buying a business number: country, documents and a temporary number

  1. Choose a country and a number. Settings → Cindy → “Buy a phone number”. The price depends on the country and the number and is shown before you pay; it covers the connection and the first month. Several numbers of the same country and type can be picked in one purchase.
  2. Upload documents, if the country requires them. Many countries require the operator to check who the number is for. The app asks for exactly the documents that country needs; for several numbers bought together they are submitted once, and once a set is approved, further numbers of the same country and type need none. Send clear scans rather than photos, and an ID card with both sides.
  3. Pay in credits — from your plan credits first, then from your balance.
  4. Follow the review. The status is shown on the tracking page and in the system chat. If the operator asks for a correction, “!” appears on Settings, the document concerned is marked, and you resubmit only that document. Cindy tells you in the chat how to fix it and can draft the comment for the review team. When the number is approved, it activates by itself.

A temporary number while you wait. When documents are needed, you can take a temporary number with the first number of the purchase, for a one-time 200 credits. It works as soon as you pay, so you can call and receive calls during the review; it may be from a different country than the number you ordered. When the main number is activated, the temporary one is removed by itself. The documents you uploaded are deleted within 24 hours after the number is activated. Step by step: Buying an operator number in the documentation.

Keeping the business number you already have

Customers already know a number — from your cards, your van, your listing. You can keep it with your carrier and still have it answered in Weyvox: Settings → Cindy → “Connect a business number”.

  • Incoming — you switch on call forwarding with your carrier, from the business number to your Weyvox number. Customers keep calling the number they know, and Cindy answers it. Weyvox cannot switch forwarding on or read its state — that lives with your carrier — so the app gives you instructions and a check of its own side.
  • Outgoing — you and Cindy call so that people see your business number instead of the Weyvox one. On some mobile numbers the receiving network may hide the number; the app warns you before you turn it on.
  • Either or both: Incoming only, Outgoing only, or Incoming and outgoing.
  • Proof of ownership: a code is sent to the business number — by SMS to a mobile, by a call to a landline.

Connecting costs nothing, and there is no monthly fee for it. Forwarded minutes are billed by your own carrier at your rates, so for forwarding to stay cheap, the Weyvox number should be from the same country as your business number. A connected number works only while you have an active Weyvox operator number to receive it. Details: Connecting your own business number.

Who answers: you, or Cindy

A business number is only as good as the calls it doesn't lose. With “Agent auto-answer” on (Settings → Cindy), Cindy takes the calls you can't — on your operator number and on calls forwarded from your business number. You choose how long the phone rings for you first:

  • Immediately — Cindy picks up the moment the call arrives; your phone does not ring.
  • 10, 20, 30 or 40 seconds — your phone rings for that long, and if you answer, the call is yours. 20 seconds is recommended.
  • Declining the ring hands the call to Cindy at once.

Cindy answers on Weyvox's servers, not on your phone, so she answers even when your phone is off, asleep or without a connection. She says she is an AI agent at the start of every call, answers in your business name from your business profile, quotes only your own prices, books into genuinely free time and leaves you a note. While she talks, the call sits in the app as a mini call card: listen, take the conversation over or end it. With auto-answer off, calls simply ring for you.

What Cindy does on a call is covered in AI receptionist and answering service for a small business and, call by call, in Can AI answer phone calls for my business? She also places calls for you from the same line — see an AI that makes phone calls for you.

Business numbers for your team

You can hold up to 10 operator numbers, and on the Business and Professional plans a number can go to an employee:

  • A line of their own. With Cindy assigned to a team member, you can hand them one of your business numbers: incoming calls to it ring them, and they call from it.
  • You stay in charge. Auto-answer and payment stay with you, and the number can be taken back at any time.
  • No new registration. A member signs in with an 8-character access code on their own phone. Each seat costs 1,000 credits a month.

What a virtual business number costs

Weyvox prices are in credits: 1 credit = €0.01 excl. VAT. Every charge on the line comes out of your plan's monthly credits first (Start €19 a month excl. VAT with 2,500 credits, Business €89 with 11,000, Professional €199 with 25,000), then out of your balance.

  • The number itself: a price by country and number, shown in the app before you buy; it covers the connection and the first month, then a monthly fee in credits.
  • A temporary number during a document check: 200 credits, once.
  • Connecting your own number: nothing, and no monthly fee; your carrier bills the forwarding.
  • Incoming minutes: the line for a call to your Weyvox number, by its country and type — from 1 credit a minute on a local number.
  • When Cindy answers: add about 26 credits a minute for the agent's work.
  • Outgoing minutes: the line price of the country you call — for example ≈ 2 credits a minute to France and ≈ 5 to Germany; with Cindy on the call, add the agent.

The type of number matters. On toll-free and shared-cost numbers the caller pays less or nothing, so receiving the call costs more:

Incoming line, credits a minuteLocalMobileNationalToll-free
France≈ 1≈ 2≈ 3≈ 11
United Kingdom≈ 1≈ 1≈ 1≈ 19
Germany≈ 1≈ 2≈ 1≈ 38

A worked month on a local French number: 120 minutes of incoming calls, of which Cindy takes 60 and you take 60, plus 30 minutes of your own calls to French numbers:

  • Incoming line: 120 × ≈ 1 = ≈ 120 credits
  • Cindy's work: 60 × ≈ 26 = ≈ 1,560 credits
  • Your outgoing calls: 30 × ≈ 2 = ≈ 60 credits
  • Total: ≈ 1,740 credits plus the number's monthly fee — inside the 2,500 credits of the Start plan.

Each country's line rates and number types are in the tables on the pricing page; rates change with the operator's prices, so check them there before you buy.

What to know before you choose

  • The monthly fee has to go through. If a payment fails, the number keeps working for 7 days while the charge is retried every day; then outgoing calls from it are blocked; on day 30 after the missed payment the number is released and cannot be recovered. A successful payment before then restores it.
  • No credits, no Cindy. When your plan credits and balance are used up, Cindy does not answer: the call rings for you as an ordinary call, and the app tells you why.
  • Not every type everywhere. Some countries offer only some types of number, and some require documents before the number works.
  • SMS confirmations to customers come from the sender “Weyvox”, and the text starts with your business name.
  • Not an emergency line. Weyvox is not a replacement for your mobile carrier or a landline: it may not be able to reach emergency services and may not pass your location to them. Keep another way to call them.
  • Opt-outs are respected. A person who blocked their number at weyvox.com/optout gets neither calls nor SMS from any agent, and auto-answer does not pick up their calls. The rules for AI calls are in Are AI phone calls legal?

Questions people ask

What is a virtual phone number for business?

A real phone number that works through an app and the operator's cloud instead of a SIM card, so you can buy it in minutes and answer it from your phone. In Weyvox it is the business line of your AI team: you take calls on it yourself, and when you can't, Cindy, the telephony agent, answers in your business name and leaves you a note.

How do I get a second phone number for my business on my phone?

Install Weyvox and buy a number in the app: Settings → Cindy → “Buy a phone number”, then pick a country and a number. The price depends on the country and the number and is shown before you pay; the purchase includes the first month, followed by a monthly fee in credits. The number rings in the app on the phone you already have, and you call from it there too.

Can I keep my existing business number?

Yes, and you don't move it: Settings → Cindy → “Connect a business number”. For incoming calls you switch on forwarding to your Weyvox number with your carrier, and Cindy answers those calls; for outgoing calls, after you confirm the number with a code, people see your business number. Connecting costs nothing; your carrier bills the forwarding at its rates, so a Weyvox number from the same country keeps it cheap.

How much does a virtual business number cost?

In Weyvox, the number's price depends on the country and the number and is shown in the app before you buy; it covers the connection and the first month, then a monthly fee in credits (1 credit = €0.01 excl. VAT). Incoming minutes cost from 1 credit a minute on a local number, plus about 26 credits a minute when Cindy answers. Everything comes out of the monthly credits of a plan from €19 a month excl. VAT.

Do I need documents to buy a business phone number?

In many countries, yes: the operator checks who the number is for, and the app asks for exactly the documents that country needs. While the check runs, you can take a temporary number for a one-time 200 credits and start working at once. The documents are deleted within 24 hours after the number is activated.

Can my employees use the business number?

Yes, on the Business and Professional plans. Add a team member, assign Cindy to them, and hand them one of your business numbers: incoming calls to it ring them, and they call from it. Auto-answer and payment stay with you, and you can take the number back at any time. One account can hold up to 10 operator numbers.

What happens if the number's monthly fee isn't paid?

The number keeps working for 7 days while the charge is retried every day; then outgoing calls from it are blocked, and on day 30 after the missed payment the number is released and cannot be recovered. A successful payment before then restores it.
